“File sharing costs the economy £Billions” – BS!!
If you read this article, you are probably thinking – “whoa, that’s a lot of money”, but in truth, you’ll find when you apply logic to the mathematics, that is merely what is “available” to download. I might also point out that this investigation and report in to illicit downloading of files was commissioned by seven major entertainment cartels. Err, hello? They’re not going to say that file sharing is good now are they? They’ll do their level best to blow it all out of proportion and attempt any angle possible to get the government to ensure they are kept in their market and distribution monopoly.
Again, the £ figure was arrived at by just totting up what they think the value is of what was available at the time they looked. That doesn’t mean that’s what money has been denied to the economy, only an idiot (or desperate media cartels) would make that assumption. The fact is, the media cartels are losing their once iron clad grip on their distribution and air time monopolies and there’s nothing they can do about it. Face facts, you’ve already lost. Nothing is going to stop people file sharing, so adapt and go with the flow or go out of business. Artists will still make music, it just means that you won’t be there to bleed them dry or deny them air time and they might be the ones making the money for once, which is how it should be anyway.
